Hurricane Ian Effects on Wildlife

Writer's picture: wayne perrywayne perry

Hurricane Ian not only displaced thousands of Florida residents, but also thousands, if not millions of wild animals and birds. The ecosystem needs occasional storms in order to replenish itself, but storms as violent and destructive as Hurricane Ian are really more than what the system can handle. Wildlife scramble to find shelter and safe harbor during the storms, just like people, and some are lucky enough to find a place to wait out the storm, but some are not so lucky. The displaced wildlife need our help to acclimate to their new environment, and donating resources and time are a great place to start!
