Newsweek states there are an estimated 1,300,000 alligators living in Florida! That's a lot of gators! Though they used to be mostly located in the Everglades area, you can now find alligators most anywhere in Florida, partly due to invasive development of the land.
Alligators thrive in a wetlands environment, staying close to swamps, lakes, rivers and canals. They are a integral segment of the Florida food chain, as they often feed upon nutria and muskrats, which can do extensive damage to the wetlands if left unchecked. It may sound strange, but Florida NEEDS alligators! We have to take steps to preserve this apex predator and help them to Keep Florida Wild!
